ALMs Zindabad in Mumbai

A few  weeks ago activists  across Mumbai got a  shock when they read in  the newspapers that the Municipal Commissioner (MC) had decided to deregister all ALMs as they were not segregating waste into 'Wet' and 'Dry'.

At the AGNI Coordinators' meeting, a decision was taken that AGNI Chairman and Managing Trustee, Mr. D. M. Sukthankar would write a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Fadnavis.

The Chief Minister spoke to Mr. Ashish Shelar, MLA, as his constituency had the largest number of ALMs. The meeting with the MC Mr. Ajoy Mehta was attended by Mr. Ashish Shelar, MLA, Mr. D.M. Sukthankar, Mr. Gerson da Cunha and Mr. Shyama Kulkarni.  The Asst. Mun. Commissioner of H/West Ward, Mr. Sharad Ugade was also present. The MC, Mr. Mehta after a discussion, agreed to re-register the ALMs and send out letters to all Ward Officers to have bi-monthly ALM meetings.

As usual, the H/ West Ward was the first one to hold the meeting on Saturday, July 28, 2018. More than 50 persons were present and after a power point presentation a commitment was made to not only segregate but also compost wet waste if possible.
