Setting an example for many other RWAs to follow, residents of the Gautami Enclave in Kondapur have been breathing life into the community through Project Neer for eight years now, reports The Hindu newspaper.
That the 90 plus rainwater harvesting pits, the 100 plus foot injection wells, and speed breakers in the colony which double up as water channels, are indeed doing what they are intended to do is evident from the 5000 plus burgeoning saplings in the colony of 70 buildings.
On a good rainy day, the Project Neer system helps save upwards of 11,000 litres, points out the colony RWA office bearer. So much so, the colony's need for water tankers has come down by 50% over the years.
Kicked off by the Gautami Enclave Residents’ Welfare Association in 2015, Project Neer, is clearly showing the positive results, stresses the community. Moreover, it is scalable says the report.
Other initiatives at Gautami Enclave include having e-waste bins and waste segregation with Waste Ventures, the profits of which go to the watchmen who oversee the correct segregation. Now that’s scalable.
