Senior Citizens' Updates - Report on Elderly Care Released by HelpAge India

A report on Long Term Care of Elderly prepared by HelpAge India was released on 18-03-2019 by  Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed, Mathew Cherian, J.R.Gupta, Dr.A.B Dey, Kiran Karnik, Manmohan Sharma, Prof. Sivaraju, and Ms.Caitlin Littleton.

The report was based on the problems faced by elderly in Leh (J & K), Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) and Coddalore (Tamil Nadu), where 59% of the elderly suffer from long term diseases and need help to carry out basic activities such as bathing and dressing etc.

On this occasion, Hari Baskaran,(70),  was welcomed and felicitated as he covered 3,000 km distance from Chennai to Delhi on cycle in 57 days. A welcome cycle rally of senior citizens and students was organised from Main Gate of Lodhi Garden to IIC. On behalf of senior citizens of Delhi, J.R.Gupta, felicitated him with memento at IIC.




New Office Bearers for Association of Senior Citizens of Hyderabad


In the General Body meeting held on 12-3-2019 in Lions Bhavan, Secunderabad, 12 new office bearers were elected for the year 2019 -2021, from among the Managing Committee memebrs.

Forum for Senior Citizens Tarnaka- Homage to Late  N.S. Prasad


In the monthly meeting of FSCT held on 16th March 2019, the activities were reviewed and participation by the Seniors in Swach Bharat and other national programmes were highlighted. Later, a condolence meeting of late Sri. N.S. Prasad was also observed in which family members were also present. Many members spoke and praised about Sri. N.S. Prasad’s involvement and his participation in various public activities.

Noble Gesture by Warangal Public School Students


Students of Warangal Public School collected and donated an amount of Rs. 12,01,116/- to Helpage India to give better services to helpless old age people.

The cheque was handed over to Sri. Raza Mohammed of Helpage India, Hyderabad branch by the School management. The students put in efforts to collect the amount from their parents, friends and the residents of the neighbouring localities. In the programme arranged by the school on 11th March, the Director of the School, Sri. V. Nageswara Rao, Principal Smt.Uma Rani, Vice- Principal Smt. Jyothi Naidu explained the service –oriented gesture of the students, and also told that they have given Rs. 6 lakhs in 2014. They have congratulated the students for their gesture.




Deendayalnagar Senior Citizens Welfare Association members gathered in the Community Hall on 18th February 2019 at 11 am to show their solidarity to Amar Jawans who lost their lives in recent terrorist attack. Members wearing black badgers, observed two minutes silence and lighted candles. They raised slogans “Bharat Mata Ki Jai Pakistan Muradabad Johar Amar Jawans Johar, Hindustan Zindabad, etc. After wards they burnt the Times of India Newspaper which supported terrorists and blamed unemployed youth. President N E Acharya Secretary K Veeraswamy spoke and showed their solidarity. Other members Sarankumar, Pentaiah, Narsingrao, Naveenkumar have also spoken and showed their solidarity to Amar Jawans. Concluding the meeting, the members have decided to send Ten thousand rupees through the Prime Ministers Relief Fund and collected cash on the spot.

In Association with Lifeline Hospital, Lothukunta, ASCA has organized a free medical  health camp. Tests are carried out for BP, Sugar and ECG as recommended by Dr. Jeevan Raj, physician and Diabetc specialist. 50 persons have got checked up to 12.30 on 17-3-2019.  President Gurunatha Rao, Secretary Sudarshan Rao and other executives have participated in the programme.

Senior Citizens Forum, Mahabub Nagar  (TS)


The Forum conducted a meeting at their premises on 6th March, where the President of the Forum urged that the government should strictly implement the Parents & Senior Citizens Welfare Act. Senior advocate Sri. S. Jagapati Rao talked on the Acts, and the rights of senior citizens.

Senior Citizens Association, Hanwada, Mahabub Nagar Dt. (TS)  organized a free eye testing camp on 8th March, with the coordination of Global Eye Hospital. The camp was inaugurated by the Sarpanch Smt. M. Revati Satyam, Sri. N. Nagabhushanam, Gen. Secretary of Mahabub Nagar Senior Citizens Forum has attended as the chief guest.

The Forum also paid homage to the slain soldiers of Pulwama, in a meeting conducted on 15th March. All the progarammes have been organsied with the support of their President Sri. S. Mallikarjun, Gen. Secretary Sri. N Nagabhushanam and other members of the Association.

Senior Citizens Forum , Nizamabad



  1. On 19th Feb an election meeting is held with the District Collector as the District Electoral Officer in the hall of Pragathi Bhawan, along with other officers on Systematic Voters Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP), in which prominent persons of all civil and social organisations of the district have participated. The Collector sought their cooperation.




  1. The Forum has obtained a chest freezer worth Rs. 23,000 as a donation from the president of TSSCCON, Hyderabad to the old age home at Ankapur village where the dietary items are being spoilt due to heat. The home is run by Sri. G. Raja Reddy where 70 inmates are taking shelter free of cost.

  2. The consumers Day is celebrated by the chairman of the Consumer Information Centre in the Forum office and it is presided by the president of the Senior Citizens Forum. The chairman explained all the issues that are happening in the market, particularly regarding weights and measures, selling outdated articles, charging more than MRP rate, etc. It is advised that no articles should be bought without a receipt.

  3. The birth day of Sri. K. Narayan Reddy, Associate President of the Forum is celebrated on 16th March with his family members in the Forum office. He has been felicitated with shawl and garlands and has received hearty greetings from the Forum members as well as the relatives.

Senior Citizens Association, Tanuku


The Association conducted a mega medical camp on February 17, in addition to the four weekly mobile camps that it conducted from February 17 to March 10. The Mega Camp was held at the Association premises

The medical team consisting of Dr, Hussain Ahmed, Dr. V. Satyanarayana Raju, Dr. Venkata Raju, and Dr. B. Venkateswara Rao, examined more than 200 patients in all the medical camps with the support of their President Sri. G. Keseswara Rao and other Committee members.

Sri. Paturi Venkateswara Rao has donated an inverter worth Rs.18,000/-to the Association on 19.02.19.  They also paid homage to the donor of their physiotherapy centre late B. Bulliramayya garu on 5/3/19.

The Association's General Body meeting was held on 25/2/19.

Senior Citizens Association members were felicitated by the Tanuku Bar Association in recognition of their services to the society and especially to the senior citizens and poor.  IV Addl. Dist. Judge Sri. RVVS Murali Krishna has participated as chief guest and Sri. KSLN Vidyalankar presided over the function. Several Advocates and senior citizens took part in the meeting.

All the above programmes have been organized under the leadership of their  President and other executive members viz. Sri. G.V. Bhaskara Rao, G. Nageswara Rao, P.P. Ranga Rajan, S. Venkateswara Rao and others.

Avagahana has conducted in March the Jayanthi of famous poet and literature late Sri. Rayaprolu Subba Rao garu in the presence of a large number of poets, authors and Telugu literature lovers.




The organisation also conducted International Women’s Day on 8th March.




Krishna Dist  Senior Citizens Welfare Association, Vijayawada


The Association conducted a meeting at ‘Freedom Fighters Bhavan’, at Governorpet, under the leadership of their President Sri. Vemuri Babu Rao, where the chief guest Dr.S.K. Jani Basha, the renowned Opthomologist described various diseases pertaining to eye and their remedy. He has given some tips on safety measures to prevent damage to eye.

The association arranges free medical camp on 20th of every month in cooperation with Kamineni Hospital and distributes medicines free of cost, as supplied by NTR Trust.




Senior Citizens Council of Delhi – Conference on Graceful Ageing




The Council organized a conference on Graceful Ageing at Nishkam Sewa Trust, Haridwar on 23rd, 24th & 25th February. Over 125 members from different parts of Delhi participated in the conference. J.R. Gupta, President of Council, briefed on various free facilities available at the Recreation Centre on a daily basis and about how senior citizens were getting maximum benefits from the Delhi Govt. when compared to other states.

He advised Haridwar senior citizens to demand similar benefits from Uttarakhand Govt. also.

The Chief Guest was Dr. Mahavir Agrawal, Vice-Chancellor, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University who delivered key note address on Graceful Ageing issues.

A cultural program was organized by the students of Patanjali Vidyapeeth, Haridwar.

The other speakers were Acharya Krunesh Mishra, G.L.Gupta, Yoga teacher, Sat Narayan Aggarwal, P.D.Lila (both from Jodhpur), J.N.Khurana, chartered accountant, Dr.Nagendra Kumar Neeraj, Chief Medical In-charge, Yoggram Nature Cure and Panckarm Research Centre, Patanjali Yogpeeth, Anita Sharma, Mayor, Prof. Pramod Bhatnagar, Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, L.R.Garg & Sardar Harmohan Singh.

Acharya Krunesh Mishra, delivered a spiritual discourse stressing on cordial relations which can be maintained in a family and society as per teachings of Shree Ramcharitmanas.

All the speakers gave various tips how senior citizens can maintain their health even without taking medicines.

Dr. G.L.Gupta from Delhi chaired a laughing session and the same was demonstrated before the audience.

Thereafter, Question-Answer sessions were also held. Next day, After practical yoga session conducted by Dr.G.L.Gupta, speakers spoke about Yoga- Pranayam and Meditation including the art of stress free living, Atma Darshan  and Yoga. The members also visited Patanjali Vidyapeeth phase-I on last day, and all the participants were of the view that such conference should be continued every year. The participants had a holy bath in Ganga ji at Har-ki-Pauri followed by Special Aarti on both days  and also took a round of  various historical and religious places at around Haridwar and Rishikesh.




A 62-member team of the Delhi Council visited Prayagraj, Banaras and Sarnath from 09-03-2019 to 12-03-2019 led by its President, J.R.Gupta. The members also attended AGM of ISU3A in which Sh. V. K. Shukla, the Election Officer declared re-elected J.R.Gupta as National Executive Chairperson, L.R.Garg (Vice-Chairperson, North Zone), Executive members Gyan Singh Tokas and Dinesh Kumar Sangal. The members had holy bath in Sangam at Prayagraj and Darshan of Akshayvat & Hanuman Temple. The members have also Darshan of Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Sankatmochan Mandir, Shri Durga Temple, Manas Mandir ,boating at Dasmesh Ghat at Banaras. The members had also visited  Sarnath and have Darshan of Lord Buddha.
